Ron Johnson and the Waterstone TP-12.

I started playing music as a young child. Broke my first Monkeys drum set in the very early seventies and had to move to guitar. I picked up the bass at 12 years of age and have played the bass ever since. My influences are the Father, Son and Holy Ghost of the bass world. Stanley Clarke, Tom Petersson and John Entwistle. I have had the honor and privilege of seeing all of these greats play live on many occasions and even spending considerable time with John and Tom.

Ron JohnsonI completed a Minor in Music from Northern Illinois University in 1990 and studied music at Southern Illinois and Rock Valley College. I turned to audio/video production for a career and have had twenty plus years creating radio and tv commercials in the northern Illinois area. I have produced videos for The Romantics, The Elvis Brothers and several other bands. But, my love has always been playing live music. I started with my first band, The Frame in 1979 - 1987 and during that time frame is when I commissioned my first 12 string bass. It is actually called the Tom Petersson 12 string bass. This was the second of its kind made and I still play it to this day and Tom has played it a few time too. My current band is TRaSh 80's and we play around the Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin area and always feature the 12 string bass for most of the evening.

Shortly after I bought my first 12 string I have been trying to have a semi-acoustic 12 string bass made. I even had a line on a possible maker in 1995, but the price was way out of reach. And low and behold in 2005 the Tom Petersson bass from Waterstone Guitars comes out. It is exactly what I have been looking for during the last 15 years. This bass has the best feel and sound of all the 12 strings I have every played. And I worked for Cheap Trick briefly during the late 80's and early 90's, so I have played many top notch 12 string basses.

The fact that you can actually buy strings for this without going broke is another plus. Tom and Waterstone Guitars have put together the perfect combination of style and instrumentation at an affordable price. With a 15 day return policy, I can't see any reason why not to try out one of these 12 string bass guitars. Unless, of course you are Pete Townsend and you are only going to send back a box of splintered wood.
