Richard Felton
Richard D.Felton, bass player, was born and raised in the little town of Fayette, MS., just outside of Natchez, MS. Influenced by parents, Mr. James Felton and Mrs. Mary B. Felton, Richard spent his formative years playing with the Felton Singers gospel group. He then graduated and went to college to further his knowledge in music. At Alcorn State University, where he studied music, Richard had opportunities to play with jazz legends Freddie Hubbard and Randy Brecker, and began developing his unique playing style. After college, Richard stayed around home a little while to help out in whatever capacity musically speaking, was needed, such as picking up and playing piano for 5 church choirs and lead guitar whenever a group needed one. Richard also worked in the school system before working in the adminstrative area of a Nuclear Power Plant. Realizing his talent was not being utilized to the fullest, Richard set out for Nashville to officially start his career in music. He worked with such artists as Louise Mandrell, Melissa Morgan, Phil Perry, Mile Jaye, Cece Winans, Bobby Jones, Michael D.Smith, Nicole Mullins, Jana Stanfield, Tricia Walker , Mike Muldoon, Jeff Goold, Darlye Coley, Chris Willis, Marcia Holt, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, gospel legend pianist/writer A.Jeffrey LaValley, Joe Johnson, James Brown former saxophonist Waldo Weathers and Duke Ellington's former jazz singer Lloyd Oldham. Richard is a session player of all style and also performs live concerts.His approach to the bass gives it a personality all of it's own, and adds an incomparable dimension to the sound of others.
