Jim Morgan
Jim Morgan and the Waterstone TP-12.

Jim has played in the Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas area for over 25 years. He began playing bass in 1980 and has virtually performed live ever since. Surviving 6 bands and 3 marriages, he continues to perform live every week with his band DRY which located out of Galesburg, Illinois. DRY has been together since 1995 and continues to be one of the hardest working bands in a 3 state area. Performing mostly rock and roll, Jim’s main influences are Paul McCartney, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan, and of course Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick. “Live at Budokan is never far from my CD player!”

Through the 1980’s, Jim played mostly 4 , 5 and 8 string basses. In 1994, influenced by Tom Petersson, Doug Pinnick, and Chip Znuff, he started playing 12 string basses as his primary instrument. “I love the full sound of a multi-string bass through multiple guitar and bass amps. I’ve mostly played in 3 piece bands so being the only “rhythm” instrument and filling up the open spaces has always been a fun challenge. I don’t believe in fancy effects to fill up my sound - just raw tube sound and lots of strings!”

In addition to playing the bass guitar, Jim also likes to record, produce, mix and master. His band will be releasing their 3rd CD in the Summer of 2005. He occasionally performs at the local Wednesday night “un-plugged” shows for the challenge of playing songs un-rehearsed. Jim’s band’s have opened for Great White, LA Guns, Brian Howe of Bad Company, Head East, and Frank Marino / Mahogany Rush to name a few. Jim has also been a Parts and Service Director at a local auto dealership for 23 years.

“Through the years I’ve owned over 30 different bass guitars and many of them I was crazy to part with. It’s about quality and tone. I thought I have heard about every tonal possibility out of a bass guitar until I received my Waterstone TP-2. It opened yet another door to warm sweet tone. I will never part with my Waterstone 12 string bass as it is the best sounding bass I’ve ever owned and the quality is up there with the most expensive ones. Contrary to what my wife may say it won’t be my last Waterstone either!”
